About The Position

This position is responsible for providing services to students and families to help support students learning experiences. This position is expected to build upon students’ individual strengths and provide training and educational programs to enhance their learning. This position is part of the special services team and reports to building administrator.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work.
  • Minimum of three years successfully supporting students with trauma histories, mental health diagnosis, and significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Successful experience as a member of a clinical or special education team.
  • Hold current and valid School Social Work license (Master’s level) with the Kansas Behavioral Science and Review Board.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Possess and utilize excellent interpersonal skills and professional judgment.
  • Demonstrate collaborative and consultative skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment
  • Highly collaborative team player
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a psychiatric/therapeutic day or residential facility for children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct services to students and their families within the context of multicultural understanding and competence that enhance families’ support of students learning experiences.
  • Provides direct services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offers students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning and direction of their own learning experience.
  • Develops and provides training and educational programs that address the goals and mission of the educational institution.
  • Regular collaboration with general education staff to ensure successful inclusion into the general education classroom as appropriate.
  • Regular parent communication through IEP and evaluation meetings
  • Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations for the special education process.
  • Completing necessary paperwork for the special education evaluation process.
  • Assist with development and implementation of student behavior intervention plans.
  • Participating in the progress monitoring of student behaviors, social/emotional development.
  • Conducting classroom observations.
  • Interview students, teachers, and parents.
  • Assist student/family access to community resources/programs.
  • Attendance of building and district level department meetings.
  • Promote student motivation and engagement.
  • Conduct psych-social assessments.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Collect and interpret student and classroom data.
  • Improve student communication and social skills.
  • Assess student emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with families and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
