About The Position

The Social Worker provides high-quality patient care through assessment, treatment planning, therapy (individual, group, family), and discharge coordination. Functions as part of the multidisciplinary team and supports community relations. In the Emergency and Psychiatry Departments, evaluates patients presenting with psychiatric concerns, determines appropriate disposition, and ensures timely assessment and treatment. Serves as a resource for patients, families, and the community.

Requirements

  • LICSW in the District of Columbia.
  • Master's degree in Social Work or related field.
  • 2-5 years' psychiatric or counseling experience (adult, geriatric, crisis focus).
  • Current CPR certification.

  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric care, crisis intervention, triage, and disposition planning.
  • Excellent communication, teaching, and report-writing skills.
  • Flexibility, problem-solving, calm under pressure, and teamwork in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency with computerized systems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete psychosocial evaluations within 72 hours.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy using sound clinical skills.
  • Develop and implement treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with physicians, patients, families, and payers.
  • Identify and manage complex discharge needs.
  • Document progress notes, assessments, and discharge plans accurately and on time.
  • Provide crisis intervention in the ED.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments and communicate findings with ED physicians.
  • Recommend treatment using the least restrictive approach.
  • Coordinate care with staff, psychiatrists, and community resources.
  • Incorporate current research into practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and policy development.
  • Maintain training in crisis intervention and high-risk psychiatric assessment.
