About The Position

The Social Worker (Suicide Prevention Coordinator) will be responsible for overseeing the Suicide Prevention Program at the Columbia VA Health Care System. This role involves serving as the primary contact for crisis interventions, monitoring high-risk veterans, and ensuring compliance with national suicide prevention standards. The coordinator will also engage in outreach, training, and policy development to enhance suicide prevention efforts within the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school.
  • Licensed or certified to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in social work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program coordination and administration.
  • Ability to write policies and procedures for the program.
  • Skill in organizing work and meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Specialized experience in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day processing of crisis line referrals from the National Veterans Crisis Line.
  • Monitor high-risk veterans and ensure completion of Suicide Safety Plans and ongoing clinical appointments.
  • Complete issue briefs related to self-directed violence and track suicide behavior for performance improvement activities.
  • Provide outreach, teaching, and training to staff, veterans, and community members.
  • Collaborate on the development and enforcement of policies related to suicide prevention efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to mental health and suicide prevention standards and policies.
  • Provide training and supervision to graduate social work trainees.
