About The Position

The Social Worker (Program Coordinator) of the Mental Health Clinic coordinates and manages the administrative and clinical aspects of the Mental Health Clinic under Mental Health Service at Dayton VA Medical Center. This position is located in the Mental Health Service under administrative supervision of the Program Manager, Mental Health Clinic, Mental Health Service.

Responsibilities

  • Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients.
  • Develops and/or monitors existing information systems to track service activities including, but not limited to, visits, referrals, access, productivity and clinic utilization, risk assessment, SAIL metrics, patient demographics, equipment utilization, and patient satisfaction.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at various GS levels (e.g., psychologists, nurses, social workers, licensed professional mental health counselors, program support assistants, etc.) and provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit/service, including outreach efforts, CBOC involvement, and efforts at other sites within the Health Care System.
  • Performs the administrative and personnel management functions related to staff supervision.
  • Incumbent establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.
  • Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques.
  • Provides informal feedback and evaluates employee performance.
  • Incumbent is able to resolve informal complaints and grievances.
  • Develops work improvement plans and recommends personnel actions as necessary.
  • Incumbent provides advice, counsel and mentoring workers related to clinical and administrative matters.
  • Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area.
  • Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests.
  • Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations.
  • Supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit.
  • Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management function relative to the staff supervised.
  • Provides clinical care management when appropriate directly to an assigned cohort of patients.
  • Provides a full range of behavioral health services to typical and atypical cases in areas of patient treatment assignment, consistent with approved clinical privileges and type of hospital appointment, with evidence of acceptable work quality by satisfactory supervisory peer case review ratings. A full range refers to counselling/psychotherapy, psychodiagnostic evaluation/interviewing, therapeutic programming, team participation, chart documentation, and specialized techniques appropriate to specific treatment assignment area.
  • Maintains productivity standards as indicated by maintaining casework loads in compliance with established service policies and response to requests for patient treatment services in a timely manner. Timely refers to initiation of services within two workdays after receiving consult request and completion within 20 days.
  • Exhibits the capacity to develop effective work relationships with patients, team members, and relevant hospital employees.
