About The Position

The Medical Social Worker reports to the Director of Case Management or designee. Responsible for providing social services to patients and their families. Provides clinical social work services in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Providence Health & Services and the NASW. The Social Worker duties include but are not limited to providing resources, completing bio-psychosocial assessments, participation in treatment team planning, and discharge planning/case management service & crisis intervention. Social Worker evaluates patients on behalf of the ministry within emergency department if patients meet criteria for involuntary Hospitalization Holds (5150) and voluntary placement. The Medical Social Worker also provides patients with a safety plan when they do not meet the 5150 criteria or voluntary placement which includes referrals to community resources. Medical Social Workers must follow Department of Mental Health guidelines and keep their designation current. Providence caregivers are not simply valued – they’re invaluable. Requirements

  • Master's Degree Social Work or related field.
  • California Fire and Life Safety Card - National Organization within 30 days of hire
  • 1 year or more of medical social work within a hospital (psychiatric or medical).
  • Computer experience.
  • Computer literacy.
