About The Position

This position is located in Mental Health and Behavioral Health Service (MH&BSS) of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities, provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups.
  • Must practice within the bounds of their license or certification.
  • Ability to work with patients and families who are experiencing basic emotional, medical, and social problems, utilizing individual, group, and family counseling skills.
  • Ability to assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed.
  • Ability to independently work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems utilizing individual, group and family counseling and therapy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides case-appropriate professional social work services for Veterans and families/significant others in compliance with VA, VISN, station, and Social Work policies and memorandums. Casework, group work, case management, and/or community organization social work methods will be utilized in the delivery of the services.
  • Independently performs case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs.
  • Independently assesses the psychosocial functioning and needs of individuals and families from various socioeconomic, lifestyle, educational, and other backgrounds and is able to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient's problems, strengths, needs, abilities, preferences, weaknesses, coping skills and assistance needed, in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Coordinate community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families.
  • Provides consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosocial needs of Veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plan.
  • Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.
  • Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner, and is able to provide the customer with consistent and timely information regarding VA policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that customer service is delivered through effective communication practices, proper resources, and an empathetic approach that acknowledges and respects the individual needs and uniqueness of each customer.
