The outpatient oncology social worker plays a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Social workers in our Cancer Center provide assessments, emotional support, counseling, education, and facilitate support groups/programs to help patients cope with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The licensed clinical social worker collaborates with a multidisciplinary team working to exceed patient expectations. Additionally, they assist with resource coordination, including housing, transportation, insurance, and access to community services, while advocating for the patient's overall well-being and quality of life. As a member of the outpatient social work team, you will have access to a strong team of clinical social workers, committee and special project opportunities, serve as a preceptor in our internship and fellowship program, and work towards obtaining academic rank.
