About The Position

The outpatient oncology social worker plays a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Social workers in our Cancer Center provide assessments, emotional support, counseling, education, and facilitate support groups/programs to help patients cope with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The licensed clinical social worker collaborates with a multidisciplinary team working to exceed patient expectations. Additionally, they assist with resource coordination, including housing, transportation, insurance, and access to community services, while advocating for the patient's overall well-being and quality of life. As a member of the outpatient social work team, you will have access to a strong team of clinical social workers, committee and special project opportunities, serve as a preceptor in our internship and fellowship program, and work towards obtaining academic rank. Requirements

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) or Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) degree from an accredited social work program
  • Advanced knowledge of mental illness and personality development
  • Knowledge of the types of treatment and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy
  • Knowledge of adjustment to medical diagnoses and chronic disease
  • Strong communication skills to interact with patients, family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources
  • Psychosocial diagnostic skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Licensure (LCSW) to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable state requirements

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams
  • Provides counseling and/or psychotherapy
  • Coordinates patient discharge planning
  • Complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities
  • Serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within Outpatient Social Work and the Department of Care Management
  • Provides assessments, emotional support, counseling, education, and facilitates support groups/programs
  • Assists with resource coordination, including housing, transportation, insurance, and access to community services
  • Advocates for the patient's overall well-being and quality of life
