About The Position

The Social Worker IV position in Child Protective Services is an advanced role focused on providing protective, investigative, counseling, and case management services for children at risk of neglect and abuse. The employee will handle complex cases, conduct investigations, provide expert testimony in court, and manage ongoing casework to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. This role requires quick decision-making under stress and the ability to work flexible hours, including after-hours and weekends, to respond to urgent situations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience, or a Bachelor's degree with two years of experience, or a Master's degree in counseling with two years of experience, or a four-year degree in Human Services with three years of experience, or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • Considerable judgment in determining the occurrence and extent of abuse or neglect.
  • Understanding of social work principles, techniques, and practices related to complex casework.
  • Thorough knowledge of Child Welfare policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare documentation for court and case records.
  • Ability to testify in court and demonstrate advanced case management techniques.

  • Skills in negotiation and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and assess allegations of neglect, abuse, and dependency.
  • Make case decisions based on DHHS policy and federal/state guidelines.
  • Conduct face-to-face contacts with clients, including home and school visits.
  • Manage a caseload of clients, providing guidance, support, and referrals.
  • Assume custody of children when necessary and provide expert testimony in court.
  • Maintain current case narratives and complete required DHHS Child Welfare forms in a timely manner.
  • Interact professionally with other professionals and agencies.
  • Work flexible hours to meet the demands of unpredictable situations.
  • Submit required data collection forms and complete internal documentation accurately.
  • Assist with emergency food and nutrition services as needed.
