About The Position

Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Social Worker II for the Alton Mental Health Center (AMHC) located in Alton, Illinois. The incumbent will engage in professional social work services involving the application of social work principles and techniques in the evaluation, problem identification and treatment of forensically hospitalized adults manifesting complex emotional and psycho-social disorders. This position requires an individual who performs professional social work services within a multi-disciplinary team setting that includes primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, clinically licensed social workers, nurses, security therapy aides, vocational, activity and occupational therapists. The candidate will facilitate family meetings, confirm anticipated discharge dates and coordinate community linkage services to promote successful patient treatment and discharge.

Requirements

  • Requires a master’s degree in social work from a recognized college or university supplemented by one (1) year of professional social work experience in the evaluation and treatment/habilitation of mentally ill, developmentally disabled or other disabled persons.
  • This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
  • Requires the ability physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient and others.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires the ability to stoop, bend, lift or exert up to 20 pounds of force in performance of job duties.
  • Requires the ability to physically access various worksites throughout the hospital for administrative and clinical duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in professional social work services involving the application of social work principles and techniques in the evaluation, problem identification and treatment of forensically hospitalized adults manifesting complex emotional and psycho-social disorders.
  • Coordinates patient care within a full multi-disciplinary team and spearhead’s effective discharge planning tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Serves as an advocate for patients and resource for other members of the treatment team.
  • As a member of the treatment team, identifies options for best practice treatment interventions.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
