About The Position

The Social Worker II in the Medicine - Infectious Disease department is responsible for providing patients and family members with psychosocial support and counseling to cope with emotional or physical problems. This role involves coordinating various services such as group therapy, crisis intervention, bereavement support, client advocacy, referrals, education, and psychosocial assessments. Additionally, the position includes supervising undergraduate and graduate students and collaborating on performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Social Work (MSW).
  • Licensed social worker in the state of Mississippi (LMSW).
  • Knowledge of human behavior, psychosocial methods, and treatment of behavioral disorders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to gather, record, and analyze data.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents detailed psychosocial assessments/evaluations to interpret social, environmental, and medical needs of the patient/family.
  • Reassesses, monitors, and documents needs and interventions.
  • Provides or supervises plan of care interventions including resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention, education, patient advocacy, bereavement, therapy, and counseling.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to facilitate interdisciplinary care and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives including data collection and analysis.
  • Maintains working knowledge of community agencies and relevant medical/legal issues impacting patient care.
  • Acts as a liaison for financial counseling to assist patients in the application process for state assistance and charity care.
  • Serves as field instructor for social work students and provides supervision to LMSWs for certification.
