The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we’ve worked alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130 million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies: Operating Programs that pilot new ideas and address local challenges; Conducting original research to evaluate what works—and what doesn’t; and Providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers across the country and beyond. Backed by decades of on-the-ground experience and nationally recognized expertise, we bring innovative, practical, and lasting solutions to justice systems nationwide. The Center for Justice Innovation seeks a Social Worker for the Eviction Diversion Initiative (“EDI”) to support tenants and residents experiencing housing instability in Brooklyn Housing Court. EDI operates in Housing Courts across New York City, Long Island and in Upstate New York, working to prevent eviction and mitigate the harm of housing instability by connecting individuals and families to legal, housing, and social service resources while partnering closely with courts and community providers. The EDI Social Worker is responsible for providing clinical support to tenants facing eviction, with particular attention to individuals experiencing complex trauma, mental health challenges, and other acute challenges related to housing instability. EDI recognizes eviction and housing insecurity as traumatic events and seeks to implement trauma-informed, harm-reduction approaches that promote dignity, health, and long-term housing stability. Reporting to the Brooklyn EDI Project Manager, the Social Worker will provide short-term clinical interventions, crisis support, and ongoing care coordination, while collaborating closely with Navigators, court partners, and community service providers.
