About The Position
New Hanover County is committed to making lives better through serving children and families with complex needs by doing what's right, doing it together, and doing it well. The county is accepting applications for Social Workers in both the Child Protective Services unit and the Permanency Planning unit. Duties in Child Protective Services (CPS) include receiving and screening reports regarding suspected child abuse, neglect, and dependency, providing direct services to children and their parents/caretakers, and ensuring children's safety through ongoing intervention. Duties in Permanency Planning Services (PP) include determining the most appropriate plan of reunification, relative placement, or adoption, partnering with families to develop case plans, and documenting cases. The position requires 90% of field work to be done in homes, court, and the community, and the ability to lift and carry a child. The position offers partial telework opportunities, requiring strong written and verbal skills and proficiency in modern office technology.
