About The Position

Social Worker - BSW / LBSW Location: Bloomington Hospital Shift: Full-Time Days Join Our Community-Centered Social Work Team! Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital is seeking a dedicated Bachelor's Level Social Worker (BSW / LBSW) to provide vital social support and resource coordination for patients with diverse psychosocial needs. This role involves face-to-face patient and family interactions, collaboration with medical teams, and connecting patients to community resources to support their health and well-being. This position will be a key member of the expanding Pediatric Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) team, working within pediatric and primary care settings to address anxiety, depression, and behavioral concerns in children and adolescents. The clinical role collaborates with the primary care team to deliver evidence-based behavioral health interventions. Weekly supervision with licensed behavioral health clinicians will support your patient care activities. We are seeking candidates with strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering exceptional care to patients and families. Position Overview: The Social Worker will: Meet face-to-face with patients and families to assess social history and identify barriers affecting medical care and recovery Provide solution-focused assistance related to medical conditions and hospitalization needs Serve as a liaison between medical/nursing staff, patients, families, and external agencies Assist patients in overcoming barriers to access benefits and support programs Conduct interviews to gather relevant social history for medical and discharge planning purposes Facilitate connections to community resources, social support programs, and assistance services Support patients in navigating complex social issues impacting health outcomes

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work required.
  • Licensure: As of October 5th, 2025, all new hires must obtain a permanent LBSW license.
  • Incumbents prior to this date must obtain their LBSW within 6 months of hire.
  • Incumbents with an existing LSW must maintain their licensure.
  • Experience: 0-3 years relevant healthcare, mental health, or community experience preferred.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Strong assessment, resource development, and discharge planning skills
  • Excellent communication, planning, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of state and county adult and child protective legal mandates
  • Principles of growth and development across the lifespan
  • Experience adapting services for diverse populations based on geography, culture, and finances
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR)
