About The Position

The Social Worker position at the Tulsa Health Department focuses on providing professional social work services to women of child-bearing age and their families within WIC sites across Tulsa County. The role aims to address barriers to receiving adequate care for optimal health during and between pregnancies, as well as for children's health. The Social Worker will also handle behavioral health issues, triage clients to internal programs, and refer them to specialized agencies for additional assistance, counseling, and treatment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work required; Master's in Social Work preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a social worker working with low-resource families preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques for evaluating psycho-social issues and providing intervention and community referrals.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Skilled in interviewing clients and working with agency staff and community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective client counseling.

  • Licensed or licensed eligible as a Social Worker by the State of Oklahoma preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews clients and their families in the clinic setting, completing appropriate health screenings to identify specific needs and make referrals.
  • Addresses basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, connecting clients to urgent resources as necessary.
  • Provides education on disease prevention and health promotion during pregnancy and for optimal child health.
  • Travels to designated WIC locations to consult with staff and see clients in need of services.
  • Communicates and collaborates on client care with related THD staff, including Lead Social Worker and other team members.
  • Triages needs of at-risk families and links them to appropriate resources for services or case management.
  • Follows up on critical client needs, including trauma, violence, safety planning, and missed appointments.
  • Completes required documentation and follow-up on a timely basis, including client contact and progress notes.
  • Regularly staffs concerns with Lead Social Worker and other social workers within THD.
  • Participates in staff meetings, workshops, and conferences related to the position.
  • Completes monthly time and effort reports and attends THD-wide staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including those required for public health emergency operations.
