About The Position

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Social Worker - Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). The Social Worker - BHIP provides mental health services to the Veteran population enrolled at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. Services include provision of high-quality assessment, individual and group therapy, clinical treatment, crisis intervention, advocacy, coordination of linkages to other approrpriate VA or community service providers/agencies, as needed by the client. These efforts are accomplished in collaboration with members of the Social Worker's respective members of their mental health treatment teams and other interdisciplinary treatment teams. Functions of the Social Worker-BHIP include, but are not limited to:

Requirements

  • NPI/Taxonomy code: Required; must be eligible for an NPI number as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Completing psychosocial assessments or intakes, as a part of the consult process.
  • Providing professional services and working with Veterans and their families experiencing complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems.
  • Participating as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Utilizing knowledge of medical and mental health diagnosis, disabilities, and treatment procedures.
  • Liaising with Veterans and/or their families, VA, and community resources in order to ensure thorough delivery of services.
  • Educating and consulting Veterans and their families regarding community resources, VA benefits and specialty programs, and advance directives.
  • Assessing and treating psychosocial problems of Veterans referred to the Mental Health Clinic.
