About The Position

The student will support the Free Speech & Pluralism team by helping advance campaign goals, strategies, and plans. There will be a special focus on engaging core constituency groups targeted by state, local, and school board attacks on free speech and protester rights. The student will join the team in defending the right to learn and speak freely for all Texans. Through these activities, the student will gain hands-on experience in advocacy, community outreach, and local policy work, while also deepening their understanding of the ongoing efforts to protect free speech, pluralism, and protester rights in Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a cohort of (and eventually assist in the planning and execution of) the Free Speech Academy, contributing especially to community and content development.
  • Support the delivery of "Know Your Rights" trainings, helping to inform and empower individuals about their constitutional rights.
  • Represent the agency by tabling at community events and festivals, distributing educational materials, and engaging with the public.
  • Attend coalition meetings with partner organizations, providing support and helping to foster collaboration on shared goals.
  • Contribute to the creation and updating of materials for the Students' Rights Hub (aclutx.org/students), ensuring the resources are current, accessible, and helpful for students across Texas.
  • Attend and review agendas and minutes of local government meetings, including school board and city council sessions, to remain informed and effectively support the team's advocacy initiatives.
