The MSW Director of Field Education in the Social Work program is charged by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) to provide leadership in the ongoing administration and implementation of the social work program’s field education program. This is a full-time, 12-month position that is a virtual position to support the proposed MSW program. The person hired for this position would be required to be on campus for seven duty days per academic calendar (duty days in August, January and Commencement in the spring). The travel to and from campus, and housing would be the responsibility of the faculty member. The SMSU Social Work program is both a campus-based and online undergraduate program, however the proposed MSW program will be fully online. This position will be responsible for placement of students in their Traditional Standing year of 400 hours of practicum as well as the Advanced Standing/Concentration Year of 600 hours of practicum, and may be responsible for teaching social work field seminar full time courses for a maximum of five credits each semester as time permits (including summer sessions). The MSW Director of Field Education may also collaborate with the faculty field liaisons who may teach those courses or sections of those courses depending on student numbers in the field education program each semester (including summer sessions). This position will also be responsible for working with the MSW program director to develop the MSW program that is proposed to launch in the fall of 2027. This person will be responsible to address CSWE criteria for the proposed MSW program as well as develop procedures to meet student needs in the new program. During the academic year of 26-27, this person will work with the BSW program to assist with placements and learn the field education program and may assist the BSW program as needed and as time allows during the academic year.
