About The Position

MT DIABLO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Position Description TITLE: Social Work Intern REPORTS TO : Chief, Pupil Services & Special Education or designee DEPARTMENT : Student Services CLASSIFICATION : Classified SALARY : Stipend: Base Annual of $5,000 (No days, work is within the school year) BOARD APPROVED : February 2025 DEFINITION: Large suburban public district with approximately 29,000 students ranging from 3 to 21 years of age and a wide range of races/ethnicities, languages and socio-economic statuses. As its own SELPA, our district offers clinical supervision and field placement within the district’s Wellness Centers, Multilingual support program, and Support Office for Access and Resources (SOAR).

Requirements

  • Internship experiences will be based on university program requirements.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advocate for diverse families navigating the educational system.
  • Assists school staff in understanding the dynamics of family systems and in developing more effective strategies for working with diverse families.
  • Assist staff to adopt culturally relevant approaches for working effectively with students and families.
  • Participate on Coordinated Care Teams and Response to Intervention Teams to coordinate and track the delivery of support services for diverse students.
  • Provide individual or group counseling to address behaviors and psychosocial stressors that interfere with educational achievement.
  • In coordination with district personnel and outside service providers, identify the social, emotional, and educational needs of students.
  • Assist students and families to access culturally appropriate health, mental health and social services in the school district and in the community.
  • Interpret and share the perspectives of families through an equitable lens.
  • Utilize strength-based approaches in direct services with diverse students and families.
  • Learn and follow all professional and ethical standards for the social work profession, district policies and procedures, California Education Code, State and Federal law.
  • Ensure timely documentation of services provided and production of mid-year and end-of year utilization and efficacy reports.
  • Attend SST, IEP, and Section 504 meetings for students, as needed.
  • Provide resource information for administrators, teachers, support staff, students and families as needed.
  • Complete Medi-cal and/or Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) billing/documentation
  • Perform duties assigned by the Social Work Specialist or designee.
  • Work 2 to 3 days a week (First year intern students)
  • Work 3 to 4 days a week (Second year intern students)
