About The Position

The Social Studies Textbook Committee (Secondary) is seeking qualified representatives from Mercer County Schools to participate in the selection of textbooks for Social Studies/History for grades 6-12. This committee will be responsible for ensuring that the selected materials meet the educational needs of students and align with state standards. Committee members will engage in various activities, including presentations, meetings, and evaluations of textbook samples.

Requirements

• Hold a valid West Virginia teaching certificate with proper endorsement in Social Studies/History 6-12.
• Must currently be teaching the subject in a Mercer County School.

Responsibilities

• Make themselves knowledgeable of all programs that are on the state approved adoption list.
• Conduct presentations for colleagues at the school and county level.
• Attend textbook caravan.
• Participate in all meetings of the Textbook Committee.
• Attend meetings of the Mercer County BOE in which Textbook Selection is on the agenda.
• Receive and make samples available for teacher viewing during the adoption process.
• Cast a vote based on the input received from colleagues.
