About The Position

Hamilton Community Schools invites dedicated educators to apply for the open position of Middle School Social Studies Teacher that's available starting in the 2026-2027 school year. Reporting to the Building Principal, the teacher plans and delivers effective instruction, assesses student learning, manages the classroom environment, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and support staff. This position plays a critical role in fostering inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments while advancing district curriculum goals and student achievement.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching certification for endorsed content areas (5-9) or (7-12).
  • Social Studies endorsement (RX) or (CX).
  • Displays a high degree of knowledge in teaching at the middle grade levels

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective instruction aligned with district curriculum and state academic standards.
  • Develop lesson plans, units of study, and instructional materials that address diverse learning needs.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles.
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital resources to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Implement formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and inform instructional decisions.
  • Support and implement district initiatives such as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and standards-based grading practices, as applicable.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies and enforce school-wide rules and procedures.
  • Promote positive student behavior, responsibility, and social-emotional development.
  • Prepare and organize the classroom or learning environment to support instructional activities.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student academic progress and development.
  • Adhere to district grading policy.
  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students to support growth and achievement.
  • Identify students who may require additional academic or behavioral support and collaborate with support staff accordingly.
  • Participate as a member of IEP, 504, MTSS, and student support teams, as required.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues regarding student progress, expectations, and needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to plan instruction and support student success.
  • Participate in grade-level, department, building, and district meetings.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement consistent with district expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and certification and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards of the teaching profession.
  • Support district initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and the school community.
  • Promptly return phone calls and respond to emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or district administration, and do not violate the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
