About The Position

The Social Studies Teacher position at Palisades Park Jr/Sr High School is a tenure track role aimed at developing students' knowledge and understanding of world cultures and cultural evolution. The teacher will foster skills in research of social orders and help students understand the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors that influence the development of world societies. The position requires the teacher to develop and administer a Social Studies curriculum consistent with school district goals, create lesson plans, and teach various subjects including history, geography, economics, and political science. The teacher will also promote critical analysis of media and its effects on public discourse, conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and maintain effective communication with students and parents.

Requirements

• NJ State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher Grades 7-12.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer Social Studies curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Teach knowledge of social studies, incorporating history, geography, economics, political science, and humanities.
• Develop students' understanding of various racial, ethnic, religious, and political groups.
• Foster understanding of continuity and patterns of human behavior through the ages.
• Demonstrate how the past provides a basis for evaluating current issues.
• Develop students' research skills and critical thinking abilities.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods as needed.
• Encourage parental involvement in students' education.
• Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards.
• Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings.
• Select and requisition appropriate instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
