The Social Studies Teacher for grades 9-12 at Central High School is responsible for establishing and adjusting instructional goals and objectives to reflect district and school goals, curriculum policies, and the needs of students. The teacher will design lessons that promote problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to real-world problems. Maintaining standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships is essential. The role also involves ongoing professional development, planning learning activities to address individual differences, developing and evaluating assessments, monitoring student progress, and involving parents and community members in the educational process. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Establishes and adjusts instructional goals and objectives to reflect district/school goals and student needs.
  • Designs lessons that provide opportunities for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills.
  • Establishes and maintains standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships.
  • Commits to ongoing professional development in content area and pedagogy.
  • Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students.
  • Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formative and summative assessments.
  • Monitors and evaluates students' progress in relation to curriculum policies and planned goals.
  • Encourages and maintains the involvement of parents and community members in support of instruction.
  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children's progress and needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required Connecticut certification: Social Studies (026).
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Experience in the use of educational technology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Salary range: $50,825.00 - $105,070.00 based on experience and qualifications.
