About The Position

The Social Studies Olympiad Advisor is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and supervising the school’s participation in the Social Studies Olympiad program. This role includes guiding students through preparation for competitions, fostering academic excellence in history, civics, geography, and related disciplines, and promoting teamwork and intellectual curiosity. The Advisor ensures that all activities comply with district policies and competition guidelines while creating a positive and supportive environment for participants.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents, correspondence, and instructions accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations, including percentages, ratios, and data interpretation for scoring and event analysis.
  • Apply sound judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills in planning and executing program activities.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrate understanding of district policies, Board of Education requirements, and competition regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate all Social Studies Olympiad practices, events, and competitions.
  • Attend local and regional events, and oversee student participation.
  • Hold a minimum of five meetings throughout the school year.
  • Submit a complete annual calendar at the start of the school year, including all relevant meetings, events, and competition dates.
  • Communicate schedules and updates to students, parents, and staff.
  • Enter all meetings, events, and competitions into the district’s facility use software (FMX).
  • Coordinate marketing and recruitment activities to encourage student participation.
  • Promote a culture of inquiry, civic engagement, and academic competition.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the program’s budget.
  • If applicable, collect and deposit funds in accordance with Board of Education policy.
  • Monitor and manage expenses to ensure compliance with district procedures.
  • Guide students in developing research, presentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Foster collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership within the team.
  • Provide academic coaching and feedback to prepare students for competition success.
