The Social Skills Coach will work with students aged 5 to 21, primarily diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, with mental health and/or behavioral concerns, and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Social Skills Coach plans and provides structured, developmentally appropriate instruction to support students in building confidence in social interactions, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills across a variety of educational and community settings. This position is responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students of all abilities can develop meaningful social connections and functional life skills.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavior management, and evidence-based practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disabilities.
  • Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
  • Requires effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience using positive behavior supports, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • High level of professionalism, patience, flexibility, and emotional resilience when working with students with complex needs.
  • High school diploma with 10 plus years of previous experience working with children, adolescents, or young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental or intellectual disabilities implementing social skills groups, SEL programming, or behavior-based interventions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree- At least 1-2 years of previous experience OR High School Diploma- 10 plus years of previous experience working with children, adolescents, or young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental or intellectual disabilities implementing social skills groups, SEL programming, or behavior-based interventions.
  • Become a trainer in one of the program crisis curriculum (SCIP-R or Ukeru) within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, School Psychology or Mental Health Counseling

Responsibilities

  • Provides an educational climate that promotes social growth, independence, emotional safety, and positive peer interactions while encouraging student engagement and success.
  • Designs and implements individualized and small-group social skills instruction (using evidenced based strategies) to address areas such as communication, self-regulation, problem-solving, perspective-taking, and peer relationships.
  • Writes lesson plans for individual students, or student groups to support social skill acquisition.
  • Collects data on skills being worked on and revises lesson plans as needed to support the learning process.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavior support strategies, and evidence-based practices for students with autism and related disabilities.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, therapists, social workers, and support staff to reinforce social skills across classroom, community, and vocational settings.
  • Models appropriate social behavior and supports students in generalizing skills to real-world situations.
  • Acts as a team leader and provides guidance to classroom staff in implementing social skills strategies consistently throughout the school day.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and caregivers through approved communication platforms.
  • Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
