About The Position

The Social Service Worker/Secretary I, under the supervision of the Corps Officer, is responsible for providing direct social service support to eligible clients, including assistance with food, clothing, lodging, furniture, financial aid, and transportation. This position interviews clients to assess needs and eligibility, maintains accurate and confidential client records, prepares and processes vouchers and financial assistance, and coordinates services with community agencies. Additionally, the role provides administrative and clerical support, manages office communications and records, assists with seasonal programs and special projects, and ensures compliance with all social service policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to keypunch information into a computer
  • Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically
  • Ability to operate various general office equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of Social Service practices and principles.
  • Ability to interview clients in order to evaluate and serve their needs.
  • Ability to prepare routine and special financial reports and records
  • Ability to determine client eligibility for program assistance based on specific program guidelines and restrictions.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with the public and community agencies.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and complete client records, reports, and statistics.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information associated with the job.
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D and two year’s experience working in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public,Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Drivers license
