Requirements

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level for GS-5 applicants.
• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with relevant coursework for GS-5 applicants.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level for GS-6 applicants.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 level for GS-7 applicants.
• One full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position can substitute for experience at GS-7 level.

Responsibilities

• Aid or assist professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.
• Serve as a group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs.
• Perform as a counselor in a youth summer camp.
• Supervise the day-to-day activities of a group to maintain order and safety.
• Instruct and supervise group members in daily activities such as work details, physical training, and recreation.
• Provide practical advice and counsel to individuals on everyday problems of adjustment.
• Plan and carry out steps to handle behavioral problems in accordance with established policies.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
• Facilitate group activities and recognize deviations from normal behavior.
