About The Position

This position is a federal role that requires candidates to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the job. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in previous positions, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position has specific minimum qualifications based on the grade level, which range from GS-5 to GS-7, each requiring a year of specialized experience or relevant education.

Requirements

• For GS-5: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level or a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with relevant coursework.
• For GS-6: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level.
• For GS-7: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 level or one full year of graduate education directly related to the work.
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to deviations from normal behavior.
• Experience in providing non-professional counseling to de-escalate aggressive or difficult behavior.

Responsibilities

• Aid or assist professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.
• Serve as a group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs.
• Perform as a counselor in a youth summer camp.
• Supervise the day-to-day activities of a group to maintain order and safety.
• Instruct and supervise group members in daily activities such as work details, physical training, and recreation.
• Provide practical advice and counsel to individuals on everyday problems of adjustment.
• Plan and carry out steps to handle behavioral problems in accordance with established policies.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
• Facilitate group activities and recognize deviations from normal behavior.
