About The Position

The Kings County Human Services Agency is currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of Social Services Assistant I/II. This role is essential in providing services to children and families seeking or referred for social services assessment or intervention. Ideal candidates will display exceptional skills in time management, organization, and the ability to exercise sound judgement. The position has two immediate vacancies, and future vacancies may be filled from the eligible list to be established, which typically lasts for six months.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to completion of an associate's degree (60 semester units) from an accredited educational institution with coursework in social/human services, sociology, psychology, or a related field; OR completion of 30 college units with major coursework in social/human services, sociology, or a related field and equivalent to one year of experience involving extensive public contact.
  • One year of experience equivalent to a Social Services Assistant I in Kings County for Level II candidates.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Ability to qualify for security clearance through a background investigation including fingerprinting.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of college units in psychology, sociology, human or behavioral sciences is highly desired.
  • Basic computer operation and keyboarding experience or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to or provide services to children and families seeking or referred for social services assessment or intervention.
  • Assist Social Service Workers with provision of services to abused/neglected children and their family members.
  • Aid in the protection of children, reunification of families, and safety of children in homes of origin.
  • Assist in the preparation of case plans and court reports.
  • Refer families to services in the community and explain regulations, legislation, and policies to children and families.
  • Review case plans with parents and obtain signatures on official documents.
  • Ensure clients receive necessary medical, psychological, and dental information and care.
  • Provide transportation services for children to and from medical or other appointments.
  • Complete and process children's Health and Education Passports.
  • Conduct home visits and inspections, providing parenting instruction to teach parents how to provide a safe environment for children.
  • Supervise Court-ordered visitation between children and parents/families.
  • Participate in CPS case conferences to provide input and feedback to Social Service Workers.
  • Input case notes and other documentation into the CWS/CMS computerized case management system.
  • Complete documents, forms, and reports necessary for case management.
  • Assist in the placement of children in foster care, including conducting placement searches and reviewing placement information with care providers.
