About The Position

Tallahassee State College (TSC), recently recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges for 2025, is currently seeking to build an applicant pool for the position of Social Sciences Adjunct Faculty with the Social Science Division. We’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community. NOTE: This position is primarily for in-person, on-campus courses taught a variation of days (Monday through Friday) on Main Campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Courses needed are time blocks during the morning, mid-day, and afternoon. A small amount of evening options may also be available. Some online and/or Zoom courses may be available for highly qualified candidates with experience teaching in the Community College setting via Canvas LMS. Adjunct faculty will provide instruction, service and support of college policies and procedures, along with opportunities for professional development.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in the specific teaching discipline (ex. History, Psychology, etc.) or a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the specified discipline (specifically covering the topic of the course to be taught) is required in addition to teaching experience, preferably within a community college setting.
  • Commitment to student retention and success.
  • Commitment to development and assessment of student learning.
  • Use of technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning, including distance learning and alternative delivery systems.
  • Willingness to support a population of learners inside and beyond the classroom.
  • Ability to work in a participatory and collegial setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and navigate the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Must be engaging and focused on student success; the ability to interact with students in a group and one-on-one situations is expected.
  • The ability to meet teaching deadlines (i.e. attendance, grading) and work with students on their response to assignments in a timely manner.
