About The Position

We are hiring energetic, creative staff for our Social Recreation Program, based in Allendale. Staff will assist in the facilitation of activities and events for individuals that have a development disability and reside in Ottawa County, encouraging social networking, peer interaction and community engagement. Events and activities may be provided in the program facility or in community settings (such as libraries, museums, parks, universities, churches, and other recreational or venues of personal interest). Staff duties may include facilitation of activities, provision of basic care needs as deemed necessary for each individual participant, monitoring safety and supervision of participants, engagement of participants in socialization and relationship building, and participation in community activities and recreation opportunities, etc. This is great experience for anyone pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Social Work, Special Education, or Psychology! No experience needed! Part time positions (0-19 hrs/week) - event and activity times vary week to week and include some evening and weekend availability of staff. Flexible scheduling for students considered. Paid training. Training is provided by Ottawa County Community Mental Health (CMH). Compensation Details: Direct Support Professional, no experience - $18.80/hour ($15.40 base wage + $3.40 hero pay) Higher pay possible with experience in Direct Support. Hero pay (state wage pass-through) does not apply to paid time off benefits. Qualifications include: Ability to engage consumers in active and passive participation; it is imperative that staff have a valid, current, driver’s license which agrees with our insurance company’s requirements for staff driving our vehicles and transporting consumers; clear criminal history; must have demonstrated reliability, trustworthiness, quality care giving skills, good attendance and scheduling flexibility, and good communication and interpersonal skills. Eligible applicants must also meet the essential job requirements for direct support staff including: Be over the age of 18, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and TB test.
