About The Position

The New York Road Runners Internship program is a paid, 21-week experience in which interns have the opportunity to learn from the best in the non-profit business. Interns will work collaboratively with professionals in their field of study and will have opportunities to network across the organization. The program will include professional development events and a chance to make a direct impact on the communities in New York City by working select events. Interns will receive onboarding and training to learn about NYRR and gain the knowledge needed to best perform in their role. Internship dates will be Monday, June 15, 2026 to Friday, November 13, 2026. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who loves social media and has a firm understanding of both the art and the science underpinning what makes people like, comment, engage, but ultimately, build a positive digital relationship with New York Road Runners. The person we hire for this role will be a creative thinker with experience producing social media content across all major and emerging platforms and a curiosity and openness to understanding why some things work and others don’t. The person we hire for this role must also have strong smartphone photography and videography skills. These events often happen outside of business hours, so a willingness to be flexible with working on weekends and evenings is a must! (It’s important to note that any weekend work will count towards the 25 hour work week.) You don’t need to have run a marathon for this job, but it’s a big plus if you are a runner and have a good understanding of the running community, particularly in New York City, as that’s going to be your audience.

Requirements

  • Sophomore or junior in college, working towards a degree in Marketing, Communications, English Literature, Creative Writing, Photography, Film or related discipline
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous projects under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • The ability to be on your feet, outside in the elements for the duration of event shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with photo/video editing a plus (Photoshop/Premiere or social-centric editors like Capcut, Canva, Edits)
  • if you are a runner and have a good understanding of the running community, particularly in New York City, as that’s going to be your audience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the social media process from start through completion, including planning, testing and producing, and publishing
  • Assist with photo & video content creation when applicable and produce on-site race day coverage
  • Assist with social engagement across all platforms
  • Proofread social media content for clarity, grammar, and spelling before posting
