About The Position

The Health Promotion Specialist, Social Connection, will be a member of the professional team for GatorWell Health Promotion Services and the Division of Student Life. The Health Promotion Specialist, Social Connection will help in developing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating educational programming, initiatives, and workshops for students regarding social connection and resiliency. They will also support wellbeing initiatives with University of Florida campus partners. Duties shall include providing individual student services such as Wellness Coaching for Academic Success and oral HIV Testing; supporting student success through programming and outreach; creating materials and outreach to engage with students across campus to promote optimal wellbeing; supervising and evaluating student staff; presenting at various events and programs, and advocating for holistic student wellbeing by assisting with strategic planning efforts. Build community and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and evaluate initiatives focused on social connection, sense of community, and resiliency in supporting UF student wellbeing. Develop campus community engagement on topics such as loneliness, communication, and digital connections with others. Providing individual student services such as Wellness Coaching, and one-time educational consultations. Providing support for large-scale GatorWell programming and events, as well as operational needs of GatorWell. Contributing, collecting, and maintaining data tracking and report development related to health promotion strategies, trends, programs, education, and services both at the University of Florida and across the country; and support department grant funding and reporting Hire, supervise and manage undergraduate and graduate student staff and interns Contributing to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc.) Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, population-based theories and models, and evidence-based health promotion programs/initiatives.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and targeting health promotion initiatives and educational materials for a variety of college students.
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation).
  • Proficiency in data collection and assessment tools such as Qualtrics.
  • Ability to analyze problems, conduct research, and implement solutions.
  • Supervisory and organizational skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple demands and to coordinate efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  • Demonstrated collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues.
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks; ability to lift and/or move objects weighing 10 pounds or more, ability to carry boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Willingness to be an active member of at least one relevant professional organization.
  • Maturity to satisfactorily discharge assigned responsibilities.
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH).
  • Certified Wellness Coach (or eligible and intent to become certified).
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions.
  • Experience with design and implementation of health promotion programs.
  • Knowledge of the American College Health Association’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and Healthy Campus Framework.
