About The Position

Working closely with the Dean of Athletics, the Soccer Coach will support and lead student-athletes within the soccer program, serving as either a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, depending on program needs. Position contingent on meeting the minimum number of participants to run. This role focuses on skill development, game strategy, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive and inclusive environment aligned with Dawson’s Core Values and no-cut athletics philosophy.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to connect with and motivate students, fostering a love for the sport and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of young athletes and the ability to create a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Must pass annual background checks.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification is required (certification can be obtained after hiring if not currently held).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous soccer coaching or playing experience is preferred.
  • Candidates may be considered for either a Head Coach or Assistant Coach role based on experience and program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently upholds professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, attendance, and engagement at meetings, duty coverage, safety protocols, decision-making, and maintains required credentials.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding and support of Dawson's mission, vision, core values, and diversity statement; actively participates in school-wide events.
  • Honors confidentiality of school, student, and family information and demonstrates ethical decision-making in all professional contexts. Talks to people and not about people.
  • Upholds Dawson working agreements, such as assuming positive intentions in all interactions, holding self and others accountable for the impact of words and actions, mindfully sharing the air, and proactively looking for solutions before problems escalate.
  • Advocate for Dawson’s philosophies of balance in alignment with Challenge Success and our no-cut athletics policy.
  • Design and oversee practice plans, game strategies, and overall team development.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, league rules, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Athletics to align program objectives with institutional goals.
  • Mentor and support student-athletes, focusing on their athletic, academic, and personal growth.
  • Conduct individual and team training sessions to improve skills, fitness, and performance.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Maintain accurate records of team performance, attendance, and uniform inventory.
  • Support team logistics, including practice organization, game preparation, and equipment management in collaboration with the Dean of Athletics.
  • Prepare reports for the Dean of Athletics as needed.
  • Communicate with families weekly to provide updates on team progress, events, and athlete development.
  • Represent the program at school events, meetings, and community functions to foster support and visibility.
  • Collaborate with parents and alums to build a strong community around the program.
  • Promote sportsmanship and positive representation of the School within the community.
  • Demonstrates deep self-awareness, consistently seeks feedback, identifies areas for improvement, and implements meaningful changes to practice.
  • Creates personal development plans, actively seeks learning opportunities, and demonstrates flexibility in adapting to Dawson's culture and practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent listening skills, remains alert to diverse perspectives, and communicates effectively with various stakeholders throughout change processes.
  • Establishes reliable, clear communication systems with families, regularly shares student progress, and responds appropriately to concerns with supervisor consultation.
  • Actively participates in team meetings and collaborative efforts, contributes positively to grade-level or department teams, and seeks appropriate guidance from colleagues.
  • Consistently consults with mentors, supervisors, and colleagues for guidance on student interventions, parent communication, and classroom challenges.
