About The Position

The Field Inspector will be responsible for conducting routine, on-site inspections of assigned Board of Water Supply facilities to ensure the security, functionality, and overall condition of each location. This includes verifying that access points, equipment, and infrastructure are properly maintained and fully operational. The Field Inspector will assess gates, locks, fencing, and access roads for damage caused by weather, vegetation, or other external factors, and document any deficiencies. In this role, you will coordinate with Security Operations Center (SOC) Operators to confirm proper functionality of surveillance systems, including testing cameras during site visits and reporting any issues. In addition, as the Field Inspector, you will maintain and service all facility padlocks, ensuring they are properly installed, engraved with facility identification, and accurately recorded by location, type, and combination. Any observed damage, maintenance needs, or security concerns must be documented and submitted through appropriate reporting channels for corrective action. In cases of vandalism or suspicious activity, Inspectors may be required to initiate law enforcement reports.

Requirements

  • Per Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Field Inspectors must have at least 5 years of Law-enforcement experience.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of general locations on the island as they will need to respond to remote sites in the mountains.
  • Field Inspectors will be working with some power tools to cut locks or install signs and should have some knowledge of how to operate them safely.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled inspections of assigned facilities, including access points, gates, fencing, and roadways, to verify safety, security, and operational readiness.
  • Inspect and maintain access roads, identifying and reporting damage from weather, debris, or fallen vegetation.
  • Install, service, and maintain all facility padlocks, ensuring proper engraving, functionality, and accurate documentation.
  • Partner with SOC Operators to test and verify surveillance camera performance; report malfunctions or irregularities.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports and submit work orders for any identified deficiencies or required repairs.
  • Identify and document physical damage, security risks, or maintenance issues, and escalate as needed.
  • Initiate police reports when vandalism or criminal activity is discovered.
  • Replace missing, damaged, or faded signage (e.g., “No Trespassing”) at facility sites.
  • Respond to service calls related to missing, damaged, or malfunctioning locks and restore proper security measures.
  • Operate company vehicles to travel between sites in accordance with company policies; maintain assigned vehicles and tools in clean, safe, and working condition.
