The Peer Mentor, under the supervision of the Peer Mentor and Recovery Coach Supervisor, Program Manager, or Native and Indigenous Service Manager uses their personal experiences to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with clients of The Haven. As someone who has successfully managed their own recovery, the Peer Mentor provides clients with an example of what they can strive for in their recovery. The Peer Mentor must be highly compassionate and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The Peer Mentor must be capable of building trust and impactful relationships with clients. To aid in individuals’ recovery from addiction, the Peer Mentor must promote a “Recovery with Respect” approach, emphasizing self-direction and empowerment by providing peer support, personal assistance, education on community resources, educational classes and other supportive services. The Haven endorses a trauma-informed care approach and a medical model of SUD treatment.
