About The Position

The Street Outreach Worker is responsible for direct outreach efforts in the targeted population and community. Candidates need to have a working knowledge of street-level conflicts in and around the target communities and possess a passion for solving potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, and/or relevant experience in and knowledge of the target population.
  • Experience working with "Proven/High risk" population
  • Ability to work on a diverse team
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Must be willing to consider alternative problem-solving techniques
  • Willingness to work on the street and in other unstructured situations
  • Possess time management skills
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A Valid Driver's License and Insured Vehicle.
  • PPD (TB test required with proof of results; no more than 1 year old)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct street outreach in the target community to prevent violent crime and interrupt potential violence.
  • Work with local police officers to maintain safe environments in the target community and coordinate outreach violence prevention efforts.
  • Provide case management services and linkage to collaborating agencies.
  • Implement resources of existing violence prevention models, including program interventions and activities according to high-risk populations.
  • Provide priority to population and intervention strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Maintain client files, program reports, and data.
  • Participate in the Violence Prevention Coordinating Council and Outreach services.
  • Be trained and knowledgeable in the neighborhood violence prevention model.
  • Must be reflective of the target population.
  • Maintain a nonviolent lifestyle.
  • Crisis response may prompt an irregular work schedule-On-call 24/7 for violence-related incidents.
  • Provide support, overall problem-solving assistance, and advocacy on behalf of clients
  • Provide "one-to-one" advocacy, mentoring, and engagement of the targeted population.
  • Rotating schedule to include weekend and/or nights
  • Maintain high-quality communication with the management of the Street worker Program.
  • The Outreach Supervisor and Project Coordinator deem any other assigned responsibilities.
