About The Position

We are seeking a Snack Cook/Dietary Aide to join our hospital Food & Nutrition team. This dual-role position involves preparing fresh snacks and cold menu items, as well as supporting patient meal service by ensuring every tray is accurate, safe, and delivered with compassion. The role emphasizes creating nourishing food and contributing positively to patient care and healing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and standard foodservice equipment
  • Ability to accurately follow recipes, meal tickets, and diet orders
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a compassionate, patient-focused approach
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and perform tasks such as bending, lifting, and pushing food carts
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handler Card (required or obtained within required timeframe)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of cooking or food preparation experience in a hospital, healthcare, institutional, or restaurant setting preferred
  • Prior experience in healthcare food service strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble snacks and cold menu items by reviewing tally sheets, recipes, portion guides, and diet orders
  • Follow standardized recipes and prescribed meal plans, paying close attention to allergies, diet restrictions, accuracy, and presentation
  • Assist with assembling, delivering, and collecting patient meal trays in accordance with dietary requirements and hospital safety protocols
  • Assist patients with tray setup as needed (no feeding)
  • Prepare ingredients by slicing, chopping, mixing, measuring, and plating with quality and consistency in mind
  • Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, infection control, and HACCP standards, including proper labeling, dating, temperature monitoring, and FIFO rotation
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, food carts, equipment, storage areas, and dishroom as assigned
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries according to established procedures
  • Complete daily and weekly cleaning schedules, checklists, and checkout procedures
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with dietary teammates, nurses, supervisors, and department leaders
  • Respond to patient or client concerns within scope, escalating more complex issues to leadership as needed
  • Participate in kitchen huddles, trainings, and in-services
  • Work collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, high-accountability healthcare team
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership
