THE WORK Lockheed Martin Oldsmar is looking for a highly experienced Solder Assembler with deep expertise in both surface mount technology (SMT) and through hole soldering. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reworking and repairing a wide range of components. (SMT, PTH, Bottom-terminated) This role supports high mix, low volume production of critical aerospace and defense electronics, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality. Ability to work from diagrams and drawings, make initial layouts, and use hand and/or power tools. May conduct quality inspections on processing line in accordance with quality specifications. May disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test production or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications. Expected to read and comprehend assembly parts lists, assembly drawings and any related reference documentation. Builds in accordance with IPC-610 (and other) quality standards. Troubleshooting of process parameters to improve yield. The SMT Operator will work with AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) equipment and identify solder defects on CCAs (circuit card assemblies). Requirements

  • Experience with surface mount technology (SMT) or printed circuit board (PCB) assembly
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and practices
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Certification in a related field, such as IPC (Institute of Printed Circuits) or SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers)
  • Manufacturing knowledge
  • Adept at using hand tools
  • Proficiently read technical drawings to ensure an accurate and efficient assembly processes

Nice To Haves

  • Configure and run surface‑mount technology (SMT) equipment—including loaders, conveyors, and reflow ovens—using expert knowledge of machine parameters, material specifications, and process flow
  • Load, unload, and position circuit boards with meticulous attention to orientation and alignment, ensuring optimal feed and minimal scrap
  • Continuously monitor machine data, cycle times, and yield metrics; adjust recipes, feeder settings, and conveyor speeds to maintain peak throughput and quality
  • Produce high-quality circuit cards through the reflow oven process, consistently meeting meeting or exceeding production schedules, IPC standards, and customer specifications
  • Perform detailed visual and automated inspections; identifying and communicating any defects or issues
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machines to ensure optimal performance
  • Collaborate with production team members to achieve production goals and improve processes
  • Follow safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment
