About The Position

The Medical Lab Technician uses the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory test to be done. Follows departmental procedures and policies that reflect the services provided by the laboratory. Operates and maintains laboratory instruments. The technician will be assigned up to 40 hours a week and will rotate between day and night shifts according to the needs of the unit and staff. Will perform routine technical tasks in the laboratory to support results. Must be able to set up for testing, adjusting, calibrating, and maintaining equipment. The technician will be required to collect and prepare samples, solutions and specimen and ensure safe disposal of waste. Must have a good attitude and function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Must be able to address problems with instruments and not depend on someone else to resolve the problem. Will be responsible to assist with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to unit. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is non-negotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions. Must be willing to perform any duty within scope of medical technologist as requested by laboratory manager or director.
