The Medical Technologist uses the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory tests to be done. The technologist will operate and maintain laboratory instruments and is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. The medical technologist will be assigned up to 40 hours a week and will rotate between day and night shifts according to the needs of the unit and staff. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is non-negotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions.

  • Perform laboratory procedures safely and accurately
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments
  • Address problems with instruments independently
  • Assist with orientation and preceptorship of personnel
  • Work professionally with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors
  • Attend mandatory education sessions as required
  • Perform any duty within the scope of a medical technologist as requested by the laboratory manager or director
  • 6-12 months of clinical education acceptable through NAACLS to the CAHEA of American Medical Association
  • Current MT Certification or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, NCA, or equivalent
  • Generalist certification required within 2 years of employment
  • Ability to perform all phases of job at a satisfactory level in 4 months or 130 days
