The Medical Technologist uses the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory tests to be done. The technologist will operate and maintain laboratory instruments and is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. The medical technologist will be assigned up to 40 hours a week and will rotate between day and night shifts according to the needs of the unit and staff. The role requires addressing problems with instruments independently and assisting with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to the unit. Professional interaction with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors is essential. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is non-negotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions. The technologist must be willing to perform any duty within the scope of a medical technologist as requested by the laboratory manager or director.
