About The Position

Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision of RN-1, 3-S Telemetry Nurse Manager, charge nurse or RN, the LPN uses the nursing process to safely coordinate total patient care and education for an assigned number of patients. At all times, patient assignments will be determined based upon the acuity level of the patients, the department’s patient census and the staffing levels which are reviewed shift-to-shift. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization and Mississippi State Board of Nursing (MSBN). The LPN will demonstrate knowledge in conducting head to toe assessments, recording detailed medical history and symptoms, and operating medical equipment. The LPN must ensure the safety of their patients, be an advocate for their patients by taking the time to actively listen to their concerns, encouraging the patient to ask questions, respecting their wishes, and communicating what the patient wants with family and the other team members all while providing emotional support to both the patient and their family.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification.
  • Knowledge of nursing processes and patient care.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment.
  • Strong communication skills with patients and healthcare team.
  • Ability to work in a professional, non-defensive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in telemetry nursing.
  • Familiarity with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate total patient care and education for assigned patients.
  • Assist with the orientation and preceptorship of personnel assigned to the unit.
  • Document total care given and maintain patient charts per policy.
  • Administer medication and treatments as prescribed.
  • Monitor and manage patients' health, including vital signs and nonverbal cues.
  • Educate patients about their illness, treatments, and medications.
  • Ensure the basic care needs of patients are met.
  • Report irregularities and problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in organizational committees as assigned.
  • Support and assist with staffing and scheduling to meet unit needs.
