About The Position

The Philanthropy & Outreach Director at Smart Start of Mecklenburg County is responsible for leading fundraising, outreach, and marketing initiatives to support the organization's mission of improving the lives of young children and their families. This role involves managing grant processes, overseeing donor relations, and ensuring cohesive messaging across various platforms. The director will work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and supervise the Outreach team to enhance community engagement and fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, education, business, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of direct fundraising experience.
  • Three years of successful experience in outreach and/or educational services for children and families preferred.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit organizations required, with knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as needed.

  • Experience in managing social media for fundraising purposes.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting in a nonprofit context.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SSMC's grant seeking process from foundations and corporations, including researching, writing, and reporting.
  • Provide oversight of donor database to include processes, reporting, and data.
  • Support the annual Development Plan process and track progress.
  • Lead, participate, and provide guidance for cultivation and stewardship of donors.
  • Lead efforts in fundraising event planning and participation.
  • Support CEO/CAO in relationship management for high-profile donors.
  • Represent SSMC in various capacities throughout the community.
  • Create and implement a system for engaging and tracking outreach efforts.
  • Ensure all SSMC programs and initiatives are included in outreach efforts.
  • Work with other staff to provide coverage at events and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Provide oversight for communications including online, print, and social media.
  • Manage external vendor relations for marketing and communication support.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop an annual marketing plan in coordination with events and fundraising initiatives.
  • Supervise and lead members of the Outreach team, ensuring staff are trained and providing timely feedback.
  • Develop staff capacity through mentoring and professional development.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal staff, external vendors, and community partners.
