About The Position

The Family Engagement Specialist at Smart Start of Mecklenburg County plays a crucial role in supporting and engaging families involved in the MECK Pre-K program. This position focuses on empowering families through collaboration with community partners and internal staff, ensuring that families receive the necessary support and resources throughout their children's enrollment in the program. The specialist will facilitate family engagement activities, maintain communication with families and service providers, and contribute to the overall success of the program.

Requirements

  • Three years of successful experience providing direct services to families in a professional setting.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible administrative leadership experience in education programs, including direct experience with families.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish-speaking skills are highly preferred.
  • Experience in database management.

Responsibilities

  • Support families in fulfilling engagement requirements by auditing the Family Engagement Report and providing follow-up assistance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create family-based education and outreach opportunities.
  • Assist in planning and implementing family events in conjunction with staff and community partners.
  • Produce and disseminate the monthly MPK Family Newsletter.
  • Facilitate monthly Ready Rosie parent cafes (virtual).
  • Schedule and coordinate Parent Advisory Committee meetings, maintaining a master spreadsheet.
  • Monitor the Specialty Services database and provide follow-up for families referred for evaluation for support services.
  • Serve as a liaison between MPK and specialty service providers such as Speech, OT, and PT.
  • Inspire and model excellence in practice by supporting families and center staff in implementing child and family-centered services.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with MPK families, center leaders, and community partners.
  • Curate and maintain resources for parents and center staff on topics impacting social-emotional development and family support.
  • Share positive guidance techniques with families to support parenting skills.
  • Support the Child Inclusion Specialist in maintaining a database of IEP meetings and specialty services documentation.
  • Coordinate and schedule Developmental Screenings with the MECK Pre-K leadership team.
  • Attend required Professional Development for MPK teachers and site providers.
  • Maintain documentation of family engagement activities in a central database.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $50,000 - $55,000 per year.
