The position involves operating a twenty-three-foot work boat and a twin-screw transport barge for the transportation of personnel, visitors, and supplies to remote areas on Fontana Lake. The incumbent will also perform rehabilitation and maintenance of the park's trail system, including repairs, installations, and construction of retaining walls. The role requires driving trucks and trailers, transporting supplies and equipment, and maintaining cemeteries. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is March - November, with an anticipated entry on duty date of March 9, 2025.

  • Operate a twenty-three-foot work boat and a twin-screw transport barge.
  • Transport personnel, visitors, pack and work animals, supplies, and equipment to remote areas on Fontana Lake.
  • Perform rehabilitation and maintenance of the park's trail system.
  • Repair trail tread, install and clean drainage structures, and clear blowdowns from trails and roads.
  • Drive trucks carrying loads of more than four tons and pull trailers transporting supplies and equipment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Must submit to a drug test and receive a negative result.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
  • Experience operating small craft and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of trail maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments under various weather conditions.
