The Small Craft Operator (Diving) position at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area involves overseeing safety operations related to navigational activities on Lake Powell, assisting in the navigational aids program, and performing SCUBA diving operations for debris removal and inspections. This role is critical for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the lake environment while ensuring compliance with operational standards.

  • Oversee safety aspects of all operations, including power navigational operations and safety of cargo and personnel.
  • Assist the Dive Leader in all aspects of the navigational aids program on Lake Powell.
  • Operate inboard and outboard boats with single and twin engines up to 42' in length, and 32' Nudget pushing 46' barges.
  • Perform dive operations (SCUBA) for lake bottom debris and trash removal and inspections under marinas.
  • Maintain records and reports on buoys, floating structures, and equipment maintenance, ensuring timely submission of all required reports.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Currently hold an Open Water SCUBA certification from a recognized diving association for depths up to 100 feet.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and perform work without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safe operation practices and ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to mobile equipment operation.
  • Reliability and dependability as a Small Craft Operator (Diving).
  • Experience operating and maintaining watercraft up to 45 ft, inboard and outboard.
  • Experience operating a front-end loader, forklift, and other machinery.
  • Trade experience in welding, painting, carpentry, and operation of motor vehicles.
