About The Position

The Small Business Lending Fellowship is a structured, six-month program designed to develop future professionals within Small Business Lending. Fellows will gain hands-on exposure to core portfolio management and special assets functions while learning the skills necessary to transition into a professional-level position upon successful completion of the program. This fellowship emphasizes professional development, mentorship, and practical experience across key areas of banking, SBA lending, credit analysis, and portfolio management.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field required or relevant or commensurate work experience.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on developing collaborative working relationships and capacity to establish trust and rapport in a professional setting.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a structured rotational program required.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze annual and quarterly financials from borrowers to ensure accurate risk assessment during renewals and annual reviews.
  • Analyze global cash flow for existing borrowers and guarantors to identify financial condition, repayment ability, and potential stress indicators.
  • Proactively liaise and build relationships with customers to fully understand the scope of the business and status of the loan
  • When banking needs are identified, cross-sell or direct customers to the appropriate internal party
  • Monitor past due reports to identify and alleviate payment issues within the first 15 days of delinquency and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Support processes for servicing existing SBA loans
  • Collect pertinent information needed to underwrite basic servicing actions, including requests for loan modifications or collateral changes
  • Recommend servicing actions within Bank policies and the SBA SOP 50 57
  • Collect the financial documentation required to assess ongoing creditworthiness of the portfolio
  • Interact with numerous internal partners and external vendors (attorneys, appraisers, brokers, agents, title companies, closing agents, and any other 3rd party firms) to protect and advance the interest of the bank
  • Process servicing requests with risk ratings of acceptable or better
  • Maintain customer records in core platforms such as PCFS Loan Manager, nCino, and other banking systems
  • Maintain financial review status logs, servicing action logs, and financial statement checklists.
  • Stay informed on Bank policies, SBA regulations, and commercial lending laws
  • Cross-train and assist the Loan Servicing department as needed during peak seasons and business cycles.
  • Prepare internal bank reports related to delinquency and work-out
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support learning and development.
