About The Position

The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team is looking for summer interns! A Prime Contractor at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. since 1989, Amentum has supported many marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System (SLS) and the International Space Station. We work collaboratively with the NASA customer in an integrated environment to provide GN&C system design, analysis, and integration support for applications including satellites, lunar landers, and launch vehicles. Duties Typical responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Model, simulate, and analyze vehicle and spacecraft dynamics Analysis of launch vehicle and spacecraft multi-body dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess contact and clearance during separation and jettison events Develop, modify, and maintain software simulators, tools, and scripts Create, edit, and debug software written in Python and Matlab Support verification and validation of technical products Prepare and present technical reports and/or briefings Create and review engineering and software documentation Expectations included in the ASED Internship: You are expected to have a valid driver’s license, have access to an automobile, and be able to drive yourself to work locations. You will be expected to attend MSFC facility scheduled tours, Technical Fellow talks, luncheons, and training sessions in addition to your work. We highly encourage you to participate in activities outside of work with your fellow interns. These activities will be scheduled, with your input, by your social coordinators and will be beneficial in forming a cohesive group and lasting friendships. Qualifications Undergraduate student currently enrolled in science, technical, engineering, math or related degree program leading to a BS degree, preferably at an ABET accredited institution. Must be able to provide own transportation. The successful candidate must: Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills Have the ability to multi-task and transition between assignments Show initiative, be proactive and detail oriented Work independently and collaboratively Have completed sophomore year of university studies and be in good academic standing Maintain an overall average of 3.0 Demonstrate strong technical aptitude Display an interest in machine learning applications to engineering Essential Functions Work Environment Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<10%). Physical Requirements Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%). Equipment and Machines Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%). Attendance Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. Other Essential Functions The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. Requirements
