About The Position

The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team is looking for summer interns! A Prime Contractor at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. since 1989, Amentum has supported many marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System (SLS) and the International Space Station. We work collaboratively with the NASA customer in an integrated environment to provide GN&C system design, analysis, and integration support for applications including satellites, lunar landers, and launch vehicles. Duties Typical responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in science, technical, engineering, math or related degree program leading to a BS degree, preferably at an ABET accredited institution.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have the ability to multi-task and transition between assignments
  • Show initiative, be proactive and detail oriented
  • Work independently and collaboratively
  • Have completed sophomore year of university studies and be in good academic standing
  • Maintain an overall average of 3.0
  • Demonstrate strong technical aptitude
  • Display an interest in machine learning applications to engineering
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%).
  • Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
  • Requires travel in the domestic USA (<10%).
  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%).
  • Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%).
  • Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%).
  • Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
  • Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
  • Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Model, simulate, and analyze vehicle and spacecraft dynamics
  • Analysis of launch vehicle and spacecraft multi-body dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess contact and clearance during separation and jettison events
  • Develop, modify, and maintain software simulators, tools, and scripts
  • Create, edit, and debug software written in Python and Matlab
  • Support verification and validation of technical products
  • Prepare and present technical reports and/or briefings
  • Create and review engineering and software documentation
