About The Position

The Slitter Operator is responsible for setting up and operating slitter(s), shears, or other equipment used to cut materials to specifications. The materials include a variety of metal coil, sheet, and strip stock. The operator must deliver materials to the production department as required and evaluate materials for quality defects prior to slitting or cutting. Additionally, the operator will replace defective material as needed and inspect incoming materials before placing them in coil storage. The role requires alertness and a safe working manner, as well as interfacing with production control to maintain order sequences for slitting. The operator must also use standard measuring devices to ensure accuracy in tolerances and material specifications, operate moderately heavy plant material handling equipment, and assist in maintaining slitting equipment.

Requirements

  • Must have previous slitter experience.
  • Experience in operating a variety of moderately heavy material handling equipment.
  • Experience with operating a forklift.
  • Experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to identify different metals by both part numbers and sight.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates slitter(s), shears, or other equipment used to cut material to specifications.
  • Delivers materials to production department as required.
  • Evaluates materials for quality defects prior to slitting or cutting.
  • Replaces defective material as required.
  • Inspects incoming materials before placing in coil storage.
  • Alerts Quality Assurance to defects and prepares required documentation.
  • Interfaces with production control to maintain control on the sequence of orders to be slit.
  • Uses a variety of standard measuring devices to ensure accuracy of tolerances and material specifications.
  • Operates moderately heavy plant material handling equipment when moving coils and sheet stock.
  • Tags, bands, tapes, and returns all coils to the proper inventory area after slitting.
  • Assists in maintaining slitting equipment by performing ongoing PM maintenance.
  • Assists the shipping/receiving department personnel by loading/unloading incoming bulk coil or sheet stock.
